ECOBUILD, 20-22 Mar 2012, ExCel London

I am looking forward to attending EcoBuild again this year.  The show just keeps going from strength to strength with growing numbers of international exhibitors.  It's indicative of the growth in alternative technologies and the 'green' economy.  It may not obviously be a show for the tourism & events sectors but it certainly represents a growing marketplace and I hope to see some of my collegues from the fields of business travel & event management at the show.

CONFEX / IOEX, 06-08 Mar 2012, ExCel London

I will be visiting the show on Tuesday, 06 March & Wednesday, 07 March.  Contact me on 07740 706629 to meet at the show(s).

The Business Travel Show, 06-08 Mar 2012, Earls Court London

Interesting to learn that the leading travel management companies represented at the show all see certification in ISO 9001 - Quality Management, ISO 14001 - Environmental Management and ISO 27001 - Information & Data Security Management as prerequisites to their business success.  I am working with IMSM Ltd to deliver a dedicated implementation service for the tourism & events sectors in these and other management system standards, including BS OHSAS 18001 - Occupational Health & Safety Management, ISO 22301 - Business Continuity and ISO 22000 - Food Safety Management.  Contact me to learn more.

Event Production Show, 01-02 Feb 2012, London Olympia

Great to catch up with some familiar faces at EPS and to meet some new ones.  A.T. Industries' stand caught my eye - recyclable carpets for exhibitions & events.  Most exhibition carpets go straight to landfill after only a few days' use but A.T. Industries' Elea Vel can be broken down into polypropylene pellets for use in new plastic products - great to see the team pioneering a more responsible approach.

IEMA Sustainable Business Conference, 15-16 Nov 2011, Savoy Place, London

I was delighted to attend IEMA's annual conference for the environmental profession this week - always a beneficial opportunity to catch up with latest developments & insights.  Of interest amongst the exhibitors was Sustainable Opportunity Solutions promoting TravelHUB, their award-winning IT solution for more sustainable business travel.  An observation from the platform that particularly caught my attention came from Paul Turner, Head of Sustainable Development at Lloyds Banking Group's Wholesale Division.  Not only are lending decisions increasingly influenced by an organisation's strategy for managing its environmental impacts but also for managing the impact of environmental factors on business performance...a reference to the growing frequency of extreme weather events, such as flooding, and an advertisement for environmental management plans and rigorous business contingency planning if ever I heard one!  To discuss the benefits for your business of implementing systems such as ISO 14001 Environmental Management &/or BS 25999 Business Continuity Management, drop me a line at caroline@ccctourism.co.uk or call me on 07740 706629.

World Travel Market7-10 Nov 2011, ExCel London

I was delighted to join IMSM Ltd and the Guild of Travel & Tourism at WTM, where I had a most productive few days on & off the stand, including a couple of useful seminars: CSR in the Meetings & Hospitality Industry & Commercial Advantage through Responsible Tourism Marketing.  Repeated speakers highlighted greater emphasis in procurement specifications on verifiable measures for sustainability, & reported several instances of business lost due to their absence.  I am delighted therefore to be offering support in implementing standards, such as ISO 14001, designed to provide exactly this element of rigour [more].  I also dropped in for the Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards, and, would like to offer my congratulations to all the winners & runners-up, in particular, to winners of Best Accommodation for the Environment Richard & Dee Slade for their achievements in Northumberland at the Battlesteads Hotel.

The Showman's Show19-20 Oct 2011, Newbury Showground, Berks

The Showman's Show has long been a highlight of the event industry calendar so I was delighted to visit the show this year and to meet up with some of the exhibitors & visitors.  It was great to see event branding specialists, Sunbabatake the award for Best Exhibition Hall Stand, not least because the team was showcasing their new recyclable display panels.

Energy Solutions Expo, 11-12 Oct 2011, London Olympia

I took some time out this week to visit Energy Solutions, which was running alongside Total Workplace Management & the Building Services Event.  A number of interesting products & services were on show but it was particularly useful to learn more about voltage optimisation.  This smart technology enables facilities managers to manage their energy consumption more effectively through constant monitoring & automatic voltage adjustment...a solution that offers the likes of hotels, venues, apartments & office managers a means to reduce energy use with no impact on service delivery and thereby save costs & reduce CO2e emissions - a classic win-win-win opportunity.

New Implementation Service in ISO Management Standards

I am delighted to announce that I have teamed up with IMSM Ltd to provide a fast-track service to compliance & certification against a range of international management system standards, including ISO 9001 - Quality Management  &  ISO 14001 - Environmental Management.  For more information about IMSM and the full range of standards supported, visit www.imsm.com

Sustainable Event Summit, 13 Jun 2011, the Barbican London

Seventeen Events, the founders & organisers of the Sustainable Events Summitkindly asked me to act as facilitator for a round-table session on International Travel & Transport.  Supported by a diverse range of delegates, representing venues & attractions, as well as festival & event organisers, the Summit was a highly enjoyable opportunity to share views and best practice.
